World-renowned game developers can sometimes make controversial decisions that affect a portion of their player base for various reasons. The most recent example of this is Valve. The company announced that there will be no support for 32-bit operating systems and MacOS in Counter-Strike 2.
Counter-Strike 2 Won’t Be Playable on MacOS and 32-bit Operating Systems!
Valve recently released the highly anticipated Counter-Strike 2 after a long wait. This marked the end of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and some of us played it for the last time without even realizing it. While this saddened some players, it excited others because of the release of a new FPS game.
Valve introduced Counter-Strike 2 to players by releasing an update for CS:GO. This update was distributed to both Windows and Linux users, as well as MacOS users. However, there was a frustrating issue on the MacOS side.
Counter-Strike 2 was released without being made compatible with MacOS. Players encountered an error stating that a file specific to Windows could not be executed when they tried to open the game. This was initially seen as a possible error due to the recent release of the game, and players were expecting an explanation from Valve. However, today, it was revealed that this was not the case.
Valve added new information to the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page. According to this, there will be no MacOS support for Counter-Strike 2. The reason for this is that less than 1% of CS:GO players use MacOS.
According to information shared by the company, support will no longer be provided for older systems, including DirectX 9 and 32-bit operating systems. From now on, Counter-Strike 2 will only support 64-bit versions of Windows and Linux computers.
Hundreds of thousands of players are affected
Although Valve claims that less than 1% of CS:GO players use MacOS, the actual number of players is quite significant. Since its release in 2012, the FPS game is played by millions of players every month. This means that there are hundreds of thousands of MacOS players.
According to information shared by Valve, MacOS users who have purchased the Prime Status Upgrade in CS:GO can request a refund. To do this, players must have spent the majority of their game time on MacOS and have entered CS:GO at least once between the announcement of Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test (March 22, 2023) and the introduction of Limited Test. Players can request a refund until December 1.
